Another
Loss to Our Faculty
Shortly
after instructor Mary Cox died late last summer, another of our most
cherished faculty members died. Jacinta Howard, like Mary, was 88 years
old.
Jacinta
taught violin and viola. And like Mary, Jacinta's photo was also featured
in our Student Guide. She's the "cover girl" in the top photo.
Jacinta
was one of the first members of Music Arts - in fact, was one of the
group of three whose combined recital students gave birth to the original
music school idea back in the early 80's.
She was
one of the founders of the Oak Ridge Symphony, and was a member of our
Community Orchestra for the past decade of that orchestra's existence.
Her work with Music Arts students gave her the outstanding honor of
having, consistently, the greatest number of Competition winners of
all our instructors.
We really
miss both of these ladies.
Donors Appreciated!
Thanks
to those of you who donated to our fund drive. You've helped us with
a growing number of youngsters who can't afford private music lessons.
We like to make sure that all young students can have lessons.
Reception
Well-Received
We always
enjoy our recitals, and we know that one of the things (among many,
or course) that motivates students to play is the thought of a well-furnished
reception table as a reward. The November
17 recital reception was especially appealing, with a great variety
of mostly home-made cookies, muffins, and brownies! Thanks to our recitalists'
parents for their efforts!

Bass Instructor
Joins Music Arts!
We're
really pleased to announce that Dr. Li Ting Sankey
has joined Music Arts.
Dr. Sankey,
originally from Beijing, has earned a number of degrees, including the
highest awarded, the Doctor of Musical Arts, which she earned in Performance.
She's
had a quite a bit of teaching experience in addition to performing,
having been on the faculty of several colleges and universities in the
United States.
She enjoyes
teaching students whether they are playing in their school orchestras,
and will students as young as age 9.
And remember
that when you refer your friends to her (or any of our other instructors),
you'll be earning free lessons. The details are on page 8 of your copy
of the Student Guide.
