Fall
Quarter 1999
August 30 - November 29, 1999
|
Your
bill is in the e-mail!
Well,
perhaps not your bill, but a growing number of Music Arts students
and their families are taking advantage of our offer to send their quarterly
or monthly statements by email rather than by the US Post.
In order
to join, give us a call at 865-482-5614 or write a short note (with your
email address) when mailing in your payment. We'll send you an acknowledgment
with a "sample statement" attached, to see if our systems
are compatible. If you receive Garbage, we'll try again from another
site.
Electronic
payment (ACH) does not seem to be developed to the point of being useful
at this time. It appears that only the large (national) banks can handle
it, but the local banks and credit unions will probably be picking up
on the trend in the future. We'll add electronic payment as it becomes
more accepted by financial institutions.
Music
Theory Olympics Time!
Don't
miss it!! This Fall Quarter's Theory Olympics will be held Saturday
morning, October 23. As in past years, it'll be in space leased
from the Alliance Church, on the corner of Robertsville Road and Raleigh
Road.
Call us
at 865-482-5614 to register! Other than the fact that it's free and
has door prizes, why should you sign on?
Well,
it seems that being able to play or sing notes is not all there is to
music. Learning about key signatures, figuring out rhythmic patters,
and things like that, are very very helpful when you want to make music!
The Theory
Olympics combines action games with quiet games. One of the favorites
from last year was "Music Jeopardy." Don't miss this fun way
to learn more. You don't think you know enough about music theory to
play these games? Of course you do! If you've ever answered an Intermission
Quiz question at our recitals, you know
something about theory!! Join us! It's fun.
A
Big Hello to Edward Pierce!
We're
delighted to welcome Edward Pierce, who has been called in to help us
keep up with the demand for piano instructors. We'll have more variety
in piano playing and teaching styles, and of course, scheduling. You
can check out Pierce's credentials by reading his
biography page our our website.
A very
talented and capable sight-reader, Pierce is active in his church's
music program and has served as assistant accompianist for the Oak Ridge
Chorus. In fact, he's an "old friend" of Music Arts -- he's
studied banjo with former instructor Anne-Marie Begley!
His "real"
job is teaching sixth grade, and he feels comfortable with students
of all ages. If you or your friends are looking for a top notch piano
instructor, give us a call. The schedule is filling up fast!
