Scholarships at Music Arts

Scholarships are available to students up through grade 12 and are awarded on the basis of talent, financial need and motivation.

Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of the Winter Quarter (first Monday in December) and continue for a full year, assuming the student's original qualifications don't change. Half-year scholarships are awarded at the beginning of the Summer Quarter (first Monday in June) for students who did not apply earlier in the year.

Stipends are awarded to cover 25%, 50% or 75% of the cost of weekly private lessons.

How to Apply

  • To apply for assistance, students must first study with the sponsoring instructor for a minimum of one quarter (three months), in order to allow the instructor to assess talent and motivation.
  • To help defray the cost of lessons during this probational period, students are automatically given a 20% discount until scholarships are awarded or denied.
  • In addition, the parents or custodians must submit a financial statement of annual income and unusual expenses.
  • The scholarship packet also contains comment sheets for two references who are well acquainted with the student and family.
  • All material is kept in strict confidence by the music school.

Scholarship Fund Drive

The number and amount of scholarships given each year is also dependent on the results of an annual fund drive. However, in a typical year, scholarships of 25% are awarded to students whose annual family income is between $20,000 to $25,000; 50% for income between $15,000 and $20,000; and 75% for income under $15,000. Decisions are made by the Music Arts Advisory Board, the music school director and the sponsoring instructor.
