About My Instructor! |

Emily Bogle writes: Throughout the course of my short life, I have had four, count 'em, four different piano teachers, only two of which, I might add, I think highly of. One of these two, ladies and gentlemen, is Edward Pierce, the most "special" teacher I think anyone course ever wish for. Now, coming from a person who has experienced her share of good and bad teachers, this should be recognized as a major compliment. I have studied under slave drivers, softies, and one of those clueless teachers that have so many students that they can't possibly know all of them and their particular needs. I am happy to say that my teacher is none of these. He is, as it were, a "custom fit" teacher if ever there was one. So, I shall tell you, for you are most likely wondering, what makes this man so special. First of all, Mr. Pierce is a special teacher because he is so encouraging. I believe that I would attempt just about anything if he were to tell me that I could. He has a way of making you believe that you can move mountains if you would only apply yourself. He's a coach and a cheerleader for all of his students, and he makes them all feel very confident in their playing. Secondly, my teacher is so very special because of his unique personality. He is always so happy and full of joy that you can't help but be happy too when you're around him. This is a very special quality in a teacher. It can change the entire attitude of their students. If they get there in a grumpy or discouraged mood, then they won't be for long around him. If they are excited and confident, then they won't be disheartened by the serious countenance of a stick-in-the-mud teacher. Most importantly, my teacher is a blessing to me because he is such a good friend. I've been told that a person can count themselves very fortunate if they have two good friends in their entire life. I've been blessed with so many friends, and still God continues to send people like Mr. Pierce into my life. I suppose that the same could be said for a teacher - one is very blessed indeed if they find two good piano teachers in their lifetime. So, I have been doubly blessed in finding such a person as Mr. Pierce who is both a friend and a teacher. He's more than a special teacher. He's a gift. A blessing. He is the person that God sent into my life to fill so many special places in my heart. How more special can you get? God could have sent me one of His own angels to fill that place, and yet, I don't think that I could be any happier than I am with my very special music teacher.
My music teacher is special because he takes time to explain things to me (like difficult fingering and rhythm) instead of just assigning the songs. He also has inspired me to want to practice! Another reason he is special is when I am SO frustrated that I think I'll never play a song again, and am almost in tears, he says a magic something that makes me feel so very special that I try it again with new courage. Mr. Pierce is a very neat and colorful person who plays piano in a quartet. Plus, he can teach you piano from scratch or give you fine-tuning lessons that will make you as good as he is, though either way you'll learn SOMETHING or another which you didn't know (I have learned a lot!). But. He's specially special because he is one of those unique teachers that makes you a high achiever and is a REALLY cool guy! Good job Mr. Pierce! (He has surely made me a better pianist!) |
