What I Like About My Instructor!

Lisa Griggs (Voice)

Meaghan Estes writes:

I have been taking voice with Lisa Griggs for over three years. I wouldn't be where I am today without her effort and direction. My voice sounded thin and unrestrained when I started, and I lacked confidence for performances. Now, I have much better singing skills and confidence that I can become a truly great singer.

Lisa knows a lot about music and has a great personality. Both of these together make her a wonderful teacher.

She had demonstrated her knowledge many times in my lessons. She knows all the tiny details of music theory. I've learned musical terms like appoggiatura, theory about intervals and harmony, and important technique like correct breathing. She also tells me stories about her performance experience. It's obvious that what she teaches me is from more than books and theory.

She never gives me a task too big to handle. This helps me to sing without feeling pressured. But she always challenges me to do my best. As a result, my musical abilities continue to progress.

Lisa's personality makes me feel comfortable She's always thinking of new and creative ways to get her point across. She lets me pick my own material, which allows me to be creative.

When I make mistakes, no matter how many times, she is tactful and considerate. I can see how patient she is with children more clearly when watching her with my little brother. No matter how distracted he is, she remains pleasant.

Lisa has earned my utmost respect as a singer, teacher, and friend. I look forward to spending more years as her student.

Michael Minor writes:

You have a jewel of a voice teacher in Lisa.

She has taught me a lot already that improves my choral technique.

Not only is she very patient she knows when to push.

Her knowledge of solo and choral music is astounding and I feel very comfortable talking "shop" with her.

-Michael Minor, member of the Knoxville Choral Society and Church Street Methodist Church choir.
