The Annual
Composition Contest is offered during the Winter Quarter, and original
compositions for solo
instruments or ensembles
are judged by a panel of Music Arts instructors, who look for creativity
and a knowledge of note writing. Pieces written on the computer are
acceptable, but students are encouraged to submit "clean" versions
that accurately reflect their intentions and are musically
reproducible by another person.
The winner
of the Symphonic Composition category is offered the chance to hear his
or her work rehearsed and possibly performed by the Oak Ridge Community
Orchestra.
Whatever
your age — Develop
your creativity! Come to terms with note values! The contest
is your chance to express yourself in an original composition.
Any
length (even
8 bars is better than no bars!).
Any
instrument (doesn’t
have to be the one you’re studying – how about a concerto
for harmonica?).
Any
form (ditch
the concerto, how about a theme and variations, or maybe a dishsoap
jingle?).
Finished
compositions are due at end of January.
So go
for it!
